COVID OF CHRISTMAS PAST

As we've been reminded every day recently, this is not your ordinary holiday season. Or is it? Let's take a look back at celebrity Christmas celebrations of the past and see if things really have changed as much as we think.

It appears that Edward G. Robinson is quarantining from his family here. Whether this is by choice or not is another story.

Not only are Laurel & Hardy practicing social distancing, Ollie is making sure Stan doesn't spread any possible COVID germs under the mistletoe. Nice job, Ollie!

Another mistletoe tragedy avoided. Norma Shearer realizes that she's out of luck this Christmas. Good thing she's got MGM's production chief Irving Thalberg on her dance card when this thing passes.

Now this is a sad case. Taking social distancing one step too far, a confused Jean Harlow tries to hang a wreath in the air while staying 15 feet from her tree.

Poor Clara Bow freezes outside  while an Eskimo keeps her as far away as possible. If I were him, I'd take the chance and invite her in for a hot toddy. Come to think of it, she's the hot toddy.

Finally, a little honesty! Jack Benny accurately reflects what we're all feeling this Christmas. No phony fa-la-la-la jazz here!

Like Jack Benny, young Joan Crawford appears to have had it with all the ho-ho-ho hokum, and is ready to take aim at the first sound of sleigh bells heading her way.

But leave it to Peter Lorre to display how we're all feeling now. Merry Christmas and remember -- you have a good excuse to avoid your family this weekend!
